Work Experience.

My role at Lonely Planet Publication is to develop applications for the internet and intranet.
Some examples of the applications I have built are below.

Sophia - A flash based application using flash remoting and coldfusion components with a postgreSQL backend. This application processes all feedback and makes it available to improve services and product. Example, an author can produce all feedback from the last edition of the book before writing the new edition. The author can pay attention to the feedback flagged as negative and improvements to produce a higher quality product.

The Media Vault - A Video Flash Streaming application using coldfusion webservices and a Microsoft SQL Server Database. This application streams media to the Australia, USA and England offices.

LP Shop - An online shop using coldfusion for 3 distribution regions. Asia , Europe and America. PostgreSQL database, WorldPay connection with XML feed provided for Lonely Planets Worldguide feature.

LP Travel Services - Lonely Planet Travel Services is a one-stop shop for travellers planning needs. In just a few clicks, they can book flights, accommodation, rail passes, travel insurance and other usual services. A coldfusion front end with communications with third party agents to provide the vistor with region specific deals.

ThornTree - Lonely Planet Online message board with 345,956 Active users registered.

I worked for Delivered Solutions for 20 months and during that time I spent 6 months working for PaperPak on there online ordering system which links the nursing homes and the warehouse's so they can order there products directly from the supplier at a larger discount by grouping together. This was an NHS project and we had to comply with there strict guidelines on data confidentiality.

I then worked on projects building Intelligence Dashboards using Brio Intelligence for real time analysis of data. I was administrator of the Brio Server which was producing and distributing documents throughout Europe.

My main role was to modulise the procurement module which I had done for PaperPak but to now make it saleable to a wider market. The procurement system was then modulised and sold to the hotel retail industry.

I am currently working on a module for the procurement system which will allow it to be used in the kitchens of the food industry to plan and organise menus as a result of user defined variables.

The main bulk of my work has been to use an existing database in MYSQL or MS SQL and then try and optimise the indexes. I then use my coldfusion skills to build a user front end to manage the system remotely. The Brio Intelligence is then built using the existing database infrastructure to interrogate the data held in the data warehouse.

I was employed to introduce IT into the office and to integrate the current system with the new system. The office had some computers but were running them as standalone machines.

I built the computer network and ensured it ran smoothly. I trained new staff on the computer programs in the office.

I tested the hardware and software for Year2000 compliance and repaired both. Cleaned infected files with a virus scanner.

I introduced a backup and recovery procedure for the office as none was in place when I joined. We used DAT tapes and did a daily backup with a full backup of all system and data files at the end of the month. I did maintenance on the machines, upgrades and general IT duties.

I started using HTML and CFML at Accident Assist whilst building an online claim site. My first site using ColdFusion was domainworth.com, which is a site for the resale of domain names. It has grown to become a domain portal which has news, new extensions for registration, appraisals etc.

During my employment with Accident Assist I attended official courses in Allaire ColdFusion and have been using it for more than 12 months. I have experience in Macromedia products, Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks having attended approved courses on them.

We were unable to go live with the claim site due to the company been bought out.

I was working at BAe creating data using SGML authoring and legacy data conversions either from proprietary software formats or hard copy. Other standards include XML and HTML.

My role involved processing manuals for the construction and maintenance of aircraft's. This process involves using various operating systems and packages and being able to integrate them together. The menus are read through a viewer and involve cross referencing between related documents using hypertext links and retrieval of graphics and text simultaneously.

I have experience with various packages, although the majority of them were bespoke applications. I have been involved in the testing and implementation of these applications. I offered 24 hour weekend support to customers based world wide and had a good customer understanding and ability to communicate with them despite the language barrier.

I worked at Saychester Limited for 20 months who are an uninsured loss recovery agency for people that have been involved in a road traffic accident.

I was employed as a manger ensuring that any customers had a non-fault claim and then providing them with a replacement vehicle. The duties I did were to run the day to day operations and provide my senior management with reports indicating how our progress was doing. I liaised with the accountants, car rental companies, staff, tax inspectors, bank and any other aspect of the company.

I had to overcome problems involving hardware and software in the office which taught me a lot about maintenance.

I had full authorisation and trust to run the business and spilt resources as I saw fit.
